Co-Leader of Project 2

Dr. Persson, Assistant Adjunct Professor, Department of Neurology, UCSF, brings 12 years of experience in working on embryonic, fetal, and adult stem cells, focusing on various aspects of developmental neurobiology and neural stem cell biology. He has spent the past seven years identifying the cell of origin for brain tumors in genetically engineered murine cancer models and has discovered the progenitor cell origin of oligodendrogliomas. As a member of Dr. Weiss' lab, he has translated his findings into human disease by establishing numerous xenografts of human brain tumors into mice. Dr. Persson also has expertise in isolating, characterizing, and manipulating stem cells and progenitors from normal brain and malignant brain tumors.

As Co-Leader of Project 2 with Dr. Weiss, Dr. Persson explores the tissue mechanics of tumor stem cells (TSC) and the interplay of TSCs with immune cells in glioma recurrence during the course of irradiation.
